Life can be hard at times. Things might not always go as you planned. We sometimes encounter unforeseen events that can be very tragic to us. On other times, we have very beautiful seasons where almost everything is going well, in those beautiful seasons, it isn’t hard to be thankful to God. We can easily name all the good things happening and render our gratitude to God. We rarely doubt His presence in our lives in those seasons, but are you able to keep an attitude of gratitude when faced with difficult situations? If you think about it, God is always faithful to us even when we are unfaithful to Him with our actions or thoughts. In the difficult seasons of our life, we need to still keep an attitude of gratitude. This does not mean we that we are thanking Him for being in trouble, but instead, we are thanking Him because we acknowledge His presence in our difficult situation. For when He is with us, our peace is guaranteed (John 14:27 “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid”). When He is with us, we will overcome the situation as conquerors (Romans 8:37 “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us”).
I know it can be hard to be thankful in those situations. Sometimes we feel like we might never overcome it, but understand that God does not allow us to go through anything we cannot overcome (I Corinthians 10:13b, “God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear.”).
The disadvantage of having a seemingly perfect life all the time is that your faith will never grow. You will eventually begin to take the credit for all the good things happening, you’ll grow complacent and eventually, your relationship with God would be nonexistent. One of the foundations of our relationship with God is faith (Hebrews 11:6). If you lose your faith in God, you lose your relationship with Him. If you allow God, He will use your trials to grow your faith in Him, and it all starts by having an unshakable heart of gratitude.
RECAP
Being in a Christian does not guarantee a problem free life, instead, it guarantees that God will see us through every obstacle we face (Isaiah 43:2).
