I believe this verse is often misunderstood. Most people set their plans, and then go to God to bless it. They go to God to establish their plans, but they fail to commit to God.
The first step you take if you want your plans established by God, is to be committed to Him. To commit to God means that you are dedicated to God. To commit to God means that you live in accordance to His will. To commit to God means to pursue God daily. To commit to God means to take up your cross and follow Him each day. You need to be surrendered to God and His will for you.
When you’re committed to God, His desires become your desires and His will becomes your will. When you’re committed to God, it’s easier to set goals and plans that are in alignment to what He has planned for you.
When you’re not committed to God, it’s very easy to set plans outside His will for you. God does not establish plans outside His will for us. God will never approve any plans you have that will eventually hurt you or destroy you.
The danger in setting plans without being committed to God is that we often make decisions we eventually regret.
I know we’ve already spent a month into this year, and for most of you, you already have your new year’s resolution set. I’d like you to search within yourself and ask if you’re submitted to God before taking your plans to Him to establish. If you know you are not submitted to Him, please make it your top priority this year. Seek Him. Get to know Him for yourself, then, His perfect will for you will be established.
